Royal Bafokeng Sport

The Royal Bafokeng Sport (RBS) is a public benefit organisation founded in 2004 to promote sport particularly among the youth. The RBS supports education and fitness training across various sporting codes including netball, basketball, rugby, football, martial arts and athletics. Through its development programme, the RBS identifies, nurtures and manages young athletes who come through the ranks from RBN schools programmes and the villages. The RBS provides training through full-time coaches and coordinates mass participation in sport throughout the RBN.

The RBS has trained and managed professional athletes who have represented South Africa at world championships events such as the Commonwealth and Olympic Games, winning medals in track and field events.

As part of the focus to develop young sporting talent in the community, the RBS has been a proud host to the Royal Bafokeng Junior National Basketball Association programme, a school-based basketball development initiative that began in 2011.

The success of the development programme has been widely recognised, winning the 2017 Sports Development Programme of the Year at the South African Sport Industry Awards.

The Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Phokeng, with a capacity for more than 44 000 spectators, has hosted major events including matches during the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Located just 120km from Johannesburg and Pretoria, the Royal Marang Hotel which offers luxury accommodation alongside world-class medical and sports facilities is home to the high-performance Sports Campus @ Marang, a comprehensive sports outdoor facility which features an athletic track, soccer and rugby fields, tennis courts and a golf chipping green, ideal for high-altitude training camps for national and international sports teams.
