Getting Around

Transport arrangements are in order to offer visitors and residents safe and easily accessible public transport before, during and after the World Cup™.

Rustenburg’s host city's bus, minibus taxi and metered taxi services will offer to the soccer tourist round the clock access to transport around match times, and will cater for a wide variety of transport requirements.

Travelling by private vehicle in affected areas at this time is strongly discouraged due to extensive road closures, traffic exclusion areas, parking restrictions and probable congestion.

Rustenburg will host 5 World Cup™ matches. Different transport plans will apply to match and non-match days.

Bus services on match days

Metered taxis & shuttles

Metered taxis will operate within Rustenburg from the central transport hub. One can catch a metered taxi to areas of interest and a shuttle bus to the stadium on match days. Minibus taxis

These are most commonly used by locals and cover most of the Rustenburg, and Bafokeng area.

Information on the location of minibus taxi terminals can be obtained from Rustenburg Visitors Information Centre.

Car rental

Vehicle hire desks are located at the Waterfall Mall and Sun City. South Africans drive on the left hand side of the road, and observe the speed limit in kilometres per hour.

Parking Please plan to arrive at the stadium 2 - 3 hours before kick off

Motorists are warned that there will be no general spectator parking at the stadium or surrounding areas. Spectators are encouraged to use the identified park-and-ride facilities for easy access to the stadium.

Park and Walk

The City has created certain dedicated pedestrian routes leading to the stadium so that fans can walk easily, while at the same time enjoying the festive spirit. 

Fans are strongly encouraged to walk to the stadium, due to transport delays. Walking alone after dark in not recommended.

Public transport to Public Viewing Areas

Regular public transport will be available to take fans to the Public Viewing Area at Tsitising Stadium. 

Travellers with Disabilities

Buses on the shuttle routes are wheelchair friendly.

We strongly recommend that users with a wheelchair match ticket and those in possession of a doctor’s certificate confirming their immobility, call the Rustenburg Visitor Information centre - +27 14 537 0904 to make further enquiries on this shuttle.

Some private taxi operators will also be able to transport wheelchair users to areas not covered by the shuttles.

Road closures

Some roads around the stadium will be pedestrian-only zones, and others will be reserved for those with the necessary security clearance and event accreditation. Watch the space for detailed maps.
